1227 | 532 | Rebuilding a shared collective culture: trekking paths along the paths of transhumance | Arianna Testa

The contribution proposed here starts from the assumption that, by placing on a map the transhumance paths, called “sheep tracks”, they are covered by road networks, as in the case of the Regio Tratturo Magno on which the SS16 partly insists. In this way a historical infrastructure linked not only to a physical path, but also to collective knowledge and practices, has been lost in favour of a road artery. Several times has been proposed the use of sheep tracks for the redevelopment of territories, through slow mobility tourism products. _x000D_
The contribution will address this issue, trying to reconstruct the current path of the five main Italian sheep tracks, investigating the historical, practical and political reasons for their unusability. _x000D_
We will then move on to the proposal of an alternative tourist product: a trekking itinerary that combines the sheep tracks with each other, replacing the missing segments with paths on agricultural roads. It will necessarily rely on a “strong” infrastructure, already existing and recognized nationally: the Sentiero Italia CAI. _x000D_
This itinerary will connect the Abruzzo Apennines with Molise and Puglia, bringing to light those shared cultural practices, making them live again to tourists in an immersive way. In this way, we will not only redevelop the territories concerned, but will respond to the current demand for outdoor tourism with a niche product, creating job opportunities and growth for communities. _x000D_
The methodology used sees the identification of the path of the tracks, then the selection of the route and stages according to the CAI parameters. Subsequently, attractors, accommodation and catering facilities will be chosen. Finally, a map of the route will be produced and proposals will be provided for the involvement of institutional actors._x000D_
